He was sitting on my sidewalk right next to another snake. My camera scared him and he slithered away. (Sorry about the missed photos, the other day I had to sort through 700 photos and I still have to get back into the photo posting groove!)

A fascinating photograph! My eye is drawn not only to the eye, with the moon-sliver and star-bright highlights, but also to metallic-smooth scales. I think that you got the focus just right to bring those features into focus.
